Planner

Job Purpose
The Planner is responsible for supporting the development, analysis, implementation, and monitoring of municipal, transportation, and infrastructure planning initiatives. The role contributes to the preparation of planning studies, transportation strategies, infrastructure development plans, and urban growth assessments to support sustainable community development and efficient transportation systems. The Planner conducts research, data analysis, technical reviews, and stakeholder coordination activities while ensuring compliance with municipal regulations, planning standards, and strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Planning & Development
Assist in the preparation and implementation of transportation, infrastructure, and urban planning projects and initiatives.
Support the development of strategic, operational, and master plans related to municipal and transportation services.
Conduct planning studies to assess current and future infrastructure and transportation needs.
Contribute to the evaluation of development proposals and planning applications.
Participate in the preparation of planning frameworks and growth management strategies.
Transportation & Infrastructure Planning
Assist in analyzing transportation networks, mobility trends, traffic patterns, and infrastructure requirements.
Support the assessment of transportation impacts resulting from new developments and urban expansion.
Review transportation studies, planning reports, and technical documentation.
Contribute to mobility improvement initiatives, road network planning, and public transportation projects.
Support infrastructure planning activities to ensure alignment with municipal growth requirements.
Research & Data Analysis
Collect, organize, and analyze demographic, transportation, economic, land-use, and development data.
Maintain planning databases, records, and performance indicators.
Conduct research on planning trends, regulations, and industry best practices.
Prepare technical analyses, reports, presentations, and planning recommendations.
Assist in forecasting future development and infrastructure requirements.
Development Review & Compliance
Review development applications, planning submissions, and infrastructure proposals.
Ensure compliance with municipal planning regulations, policies, standards, and guidelines.
Prepare technical comments and recommendations on planning-related matters.
Identify potential planning, transportation, and infrastructure issues and recommend solutions.
Stakeholder Coordination
Coordinate with internal departments, consultants, developers, utility providers, and government agencies.
Participate in planning meetings, workshops, and stakeholder consultations.
Support communication efforts related to planning projects and initiatives.
Assist in responding to stakeholder inquiries and requests for planning information.
Reporting & Documentation
Prepare planning reports, briefing notes, presentations, and project updates.
Monitor project progress and planning activities against approved schedules.
Maintain planning documentation and records in accordance with organizational requirements.
Support the preparation of management reports and performance dashboards.
Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to improve planning processes and service delivery.
Support sustainability, innovation, and smart city planning initiatives.
Keep up to date with urban planning, transportation, and infrastructure trends and best practices.
Contribute to process improvement and organizational development initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
Educational Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, Architecture, Infrastructure Planning, or a related discipline.
Professional planning certifications are considered an advantage.
Experience
3-6 years of relevant experience in urban planning, transportation planning, infrastructure planning, or municipal development.
Experience within a municipality, transportation authority, government entity, or infrastructure organization is preferred.
Experience in planning studies, data analysis, and development review activities is desirable.
Technical Competencies
Knowledge of urban planning, transportation planning, and infrastructure development principles.
Understanding of municipal regulations, planning standards, and development controls.
Proficiency in GIS applications and planning software.
Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Knowledge of project planning and reporting methodologies.
